Yoga for Dummies, 2nd Edition

Oh my goodness, my computer is down.  I feel so lost and a bit lonely without it!  I think that means I truly am addicted!!

Luckily, Brian is letting me use his computer when he isn't using it.  He's a realtor and is quite busy these days, which is a good thing, but it means I don't get to use it much.

I am loving yoga these days.  It is so calming to me as well as a great workout.  My favorite is the Fountain of Youth One on One with Tony Horton.  I like that it is about 45 mins and it works the whole body!

If you are new to yoga, you should check out Yoga for Dummies, 2nd Edition by Georg Feuerstein, PhD and Larry Payne PhD!  This book was sent to me for review and it is a great tool.  It teaches you many poses and will even help you create your own personal yoga program.

There is a great section on pre and post natal yoga, yoga for kids and teens and yoga for seniors.  This book covers it all!

I really liked the yogic art of conscious eating!  I have read a little on this way of eating.

Calm and centered
keep your attention on eating
eat slowly and chew your food well
pay attention to the taste sensations
breathe
be grateful for your food

I think it is a wonderful way to eat!

Be sure to pick up a copy of the book today!  Start your own yoga practice and you will notice all kinds of great results.  Not just in your physical fitness, but your mental fitness too!

Yoga for Dummies, 2nd Edition has great photos of the poses and gives detailed descriptions on how to do them safely!

Toesox

I have really been trying to incorporate more yoga into my exercise routine. I love the way I feel when I do yoga regularly, not to mention the fact that I am more flexible and that is always a good thing.

One of the problems I have with yoga is that I get sweaty and then my feet and hands start slipping on the mat. I got a great yoga mat from Aurorae, but the sweat still comes and is hard to hold those positions.

I was so glad to find Toesox. These socks have a non-slip sole with superior grip and can be used for other activities than yoga ( pilates, dance, martial arts). They have a 5 toe design which helps to strengthen muscles and ligaments and it also increases blood circulation. They also protect your feet from germs if you are in a public setting. They are made with organic cotton and also reduce the moisture and friction on your feet and in between toes.

I think I liked the half toe sox the best. I felt that I had more grip with my toes exposed. Don't ask me why, I can't answer that one LOL!

Toe Sox come in a wide variety of colors and patterns. So cute, there is something for everyone! Check mine out.

I chose the solid colors, but the stripes look so fun!

ToeSox can be thrown in the washer in cold water, be sure to turn them inside out to protect the gripping dots! Best to hang dry. If you order a pair, be sure to check out the sizing chart and order accordingly. Don't order up a size, you want the sox to fit like a glove and perform properly.

If you are looking for a great way to make your yoga workouts (or other workouts) more comfortable and better, then you must check out ToeSox! Follow ToeSox on Twitter and Facebook!

Brian got me the Trudie Styler Warrior Yoga for Christmas and I tried it yesterday with the ToeSox! I liked it, it wasn't as "sweaty" as I would've liked, but I think it will find its way into my yoga routine. I still like my Tony Horton's One on One Fountain of Youth Yoga best! I used to do Bikram Yoga and I LOVED it! Talk about sweaty yoga, but then the instructor left town and no more classes. Bummer!

Do you like to do yoga? Do you prefer classes to vidoes? What is your fave yoga?

totally crazy day

I've had a crazy day today. The internet has been down for the majority of the day. Bring in AT&T to save the day..... don't hold your breath just yet.

The repair guy showed up quicker than I thought he would and he was a very nice man. He told me he was new (uh-oh) and would see if he couldn't get the problem resolved. He installed a whole house filter, did something outside on the phone box and it seemed to be working. Cut to 30 minutes later.... no internet again. UGH! Luckily, he left me his card and cell number and told me to call if it didn't work again. So, I did! I think he might've been a little surprised to hear from me, but he said " I knew I would regret not changing out that modem!" So, I now have a new modem. We'll see if that fixes the problem. I hope so!

Meredith came over in the midst of all the internet fun and we did Brazil Butt Lift Bum Bum workout. It was good and I think we'll both feel it in the morning. She told me that Leandro ( the workout trainer in the videos) reminded her of Franc from Father of the Bride. Not in the way he looked, but in the way he talked. When he told us to move backwards, Meredith thought he said something about the curves. So, we laughed and sweat through the whole thing! That is always a good thing :)

My eating has been odd today. I've been hungry all day. I had my pb oatmeal for breakfast, it was yummy sweetened with agave nectar and a splash of almond milk. At 10:00, I was starving again. Leftover pasta primavera was calling my name. Lunch was a tofurky sandwich on the new thin buns. I REALLY like the thin buns. 100 calories and multi-grain to boot! I added a little hummus and a couple of tortilla chips ( I don't think I've ever mentioned my love of tortilla chips hmmmm.. that could be a whole other post).

It's almost time for my next workout today. Brian, Jason and Kristi are coming over to be tortured, I mean, workout with me. I haven't decided what we will do. Maybe some yoga, maybe some Insanity. Just have to see what I feel like when they walk through the door.

What are your favorite workouts? Do you prefer the gym or working out at home. Machines vs. videos?

Ho Ala ke kino

Good Morning! I started off my morning with Ho ala ke kino with Tony Horton. I love this workout. It is a great way to start the day. You start off with some gentle stretching, move into a warm-up with some ab moves, squats and punches, squats and kicks and lunges and then into power yoga and end with some more stretching. I always feel so much better after I do this workout. Tony really takes the time to explain the moves and correct postures. It's easy to follow along. The power yoga moves fast, but it gets your heart rate up and the sweat going.
